Privacy Policy for Spreewald Navigator

Last updated: 2026-05-19

This Privacy Policy describes how the Spreewald Navigator app (“Spreewald Navigator”, “the app”, “we”) handles information when you use it.

Summary

Spreewald Navigator is an offline navigation app. We do not operate any servers, do not collect personal data, and do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. Map tiles and route data are bundled with the app and stored on your device. Your location is read on-device only and is never transmitted off your device by us.

Data we process

Precise location

The app requests the Android permissions ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION, and may run a foreground service of type location (with a visible notification) to show your position on the map while navigating.

You can revoke the location permission at any time in Settings → Apps → Spreewald Navigator → Permissions. The map will continue to work without location; you simply won’t see your own position.

Notifications

The app requests the POST_NOTIFICATIONS permission to display the foreground-service notification required by Android while location tracking is active. We do not send any other notifications and do not operate a push-notification backend.

The app understands deep links of the form spreewald://rental/<id>?defaultDuration=<minutes> (typically scanned from a QR code at a rental station). The values in the URL are processed locally on the device to pre-fill route filters. They are not transmitted off the device by us.

Data we do not collect

Map and route data

Map tiles (.mbtiles) and route data are bundled inside the app package and stored on your device. Rendering happens on-device with the MapLibre rendering library. No tile requests are made to a remote tile server.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly process any data from children.

Permissions summary

Permission Why it is needed
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION Show your position on the map while navigating.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION Required by Android to keep showing your position when the app is in the background during navigation.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS Show the foreground-service notification required by Android while navigation is active.

Your rights (GDPR)

Because we do not collect or store personal data on any server, requests for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection regarding data held by us are not applicable: all location data lives only on your device and can be removed by uninstalling the app or revoking the location permission.
